Dear T. Swift,
I like you quite a bit. You’re a “hometown girl” (we’ll forget that you’re really from Pennsylvania or something) who I can connect with on a certain level. Pre-teens love us both. Just kidding. But, really, I do like your music. It’s simple and catchy and I can sing all the words along with you.
However, sometimes there are things on which we disagree. The most frustrating disagreement for me stems from your song “Fearless” and a specific portion of the song’s lyrics.
I don’t know why, but with you I dance in a storm in my best dress. Fearless.
The feeling you attempt to convey is (clearly) one of fearlessness. I get that. And I understand that this boy you sing about must be the most wonderful, protective, strong, funny, carefree gentleman whom you have ever met. I’m sure he’s wonderful.
I also feel certain that there are things more fearless than getting some rainwater on your prom dress. You know, things like fighting fires or living with a debilitating disease.
You just need to be aware of this small disagreement we have and I thought this might be the best way to inform you of it.
Love!
Ashley
P.S. The next time you play in Nashville, could you sing “Tied Together With a Smile” and dedicate it to me? It’s totally my favorite!
